1860 Thomas Pedlow 2 Civil War CDV ID'd Photos, Indiana, Illinois & NY

#099, 2 Pedlow Family CDV Photographs:

1. On reverse: "Tom Pedlow & Friend" is handwritten in ballpoint pen. Photo Type: 1860's Vintage Victorian CDV Carte de Visite Photo. Photographer: JA Wilson, No. 42 State Street, New Albany, Indiana. This is in Floyd County. (known to be photographer James A. Wilson or James Wilson) 

2. On reverse: "Tom Pedlow" is boldly handwritten in ballpoint pen. Photo Type: 1860's Vintage Victorian CDV Carte de Visite Photo. Photographer: This CDV has a large old pink paper label attached from the "Merchant's Portrait Company" in Chicago, Illinois. This was a pinback button or advertising celluloid button manufacturer in Cook County. This paper was glued over the back of the original CDV Photo, at a later date.

These 2 photos were found together in Albany County, New York. Tom may have northeast ties. Tom has what appears to be an injured left eye in both photos. Although the poses look identical, they are not. They were taken the same day, with his black silk hand tied cravat, cocked a bit. It is assumed the photo of him alone has the same backmark under the pink paper, is exactly the same mount. It is assumed that later in the 1880-90's, a family member in Chicago ordered a copy of an older photo of Tom.

Pedlow is considered an Irish Surname, with family roots Ireland. At the time, Tom had a medical problem with his left eye. We do not know if the above genealogy info is indeed this Tom, or not, but is quite compelling. A beautiful Pedlow family piece and a very handsome gentleman.
