1855 Thomas Boyden & Martha Johnson Victorian Wedding Card, Foxboro MA

Printed on card: "Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boyden, with the wife's maiden name "Martha L. Johnson" printed below. We believe this is their beautiful 1855 Victorian era wedding calling card. These Victorian era cards were used to "call" and announce your Victorian "calling" at homes of friends, acquaintances, family members and business contacts. Generally the home had a tray or "Charger," which was a large vessel, often silver, to hold the beautiful cards.

Found in Portland, Maine, Cumberland County Maine with a large number of calling cards from New England. It unusual to have a wife's maiden name printed on a calling card. This beautiful card was Thomas and Martha's personally printed card, and is one of a kind.
