The Smith name is one of great importance in the small but beautiful 18th to 19th century historical town of Cooperstown, NY. There was a well known Smith family photographer at this time period named Washington G. Smith, presumably related to Franklin. The wonderful collection of 60,000 Smith & Telfer Photographs are at the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown.
This is a great Civil War era original Cooperstown photo, found in that general upstate NY area.
