Early Essex Co., Massachusetts Marriages 1651-1722. Obtained From Early Town and Church Records-Ipswich, Essex, and Hamilton, Massachusetts: Town Histories: "Oct. 28, 1830 Rev. Lyman Matthews of Braintree married Rachel D. Howe."

He was an Andover Theological Seminary alumni and was ordained in 1830. He was also a Middlebury College Alumni, entering in 1818 and graduating in 1822, lived in South Braintree, Mass, for 14 years from 1830-1844, as the first minister of the Congregational Church there. He moved back to Vermont because of his health, and was a Middlebury College Trustee from 1847-1866, until his death.

Note: Later in life Lyman Matthews was the author of this book: History of the Town of Cornwall, Vermont by Lyman Matthews, Mead and Fuller, Register book and job office, published in 1862 in Cornwall Vermont, 356 pages.

This is a beautiful early image of Lyman from a lithographed print. It was found in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont. Have never seen one before in our New England travels. A beautiful and original Matthews family photo.
