On reverse: "Mrs. E. Parmer, West Sixteenth Street, Elmira Heights, NY" is handwritten in pencil. Also the words "Crayon, upper end of street take the one at the rite hand X, R.B.G. " handwritten in pencil, which we believe to be the photographer notes. Photo type: Original Victorian Cabinet Card Photograph, circa 1870-80s. Photographer: L. Hurley, West Water Street, Elmira, NY, Chemung County. (known to be female photographer Mrs. Lottie Hurley)
Found in Public Genealogy Records:
We did an extensive search of any E. Parmer ancestors living in the Elmira, Chemung County area of New York State during this time period, and here is who we found:
Photographer Mrs. Lottie C. Hurley (born 1868) was an active photographer in Elmira, New York, circa 1900. She was also known as Mrs. L. Hurley, Mrs. S.L. Hurley or Mrs. Samuel Lott Hurley (Samuel Hurley). Her maiden name was Lottie Chase. It is assumed her full name was Charlotte Chase Hurley, Charlotte Hurley.
This is a wonderful photo of what looks like possibly a mother and daughter. The mother appears to have been born in 1800-1820, and the daughter in the 1850-1870 range. It is uncommon to have a women photographer in those early days. A rare piece, and clearly signed with the Elmira Parmer name.
Size: 4.5 x 7 inches
Note: Hello from ~debra. I have spent years collecting over 10,000 ID’d lost family photos & paper from US flea markets & antique shops. I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. A new high quality rigid sleeve is included for extra protection, especially during shipping. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both. Please search carefully, as they are often found together and many may be related. I also invite you to join me at Ancestorville Genealogy on facebook. Thank you, enjoy! ~Debra Clifford (contact info on top bar)
