1860's Norman Fassett Civil War CDV, Fife Musician 25th CT Co. C
This old CDV is handsigned hand identified autographed. Norman Fassett was a fifer during the Civil War, and later lived in Akron Ohio.
On reverse: "Norman Fassett" is handwritten in fine old period pencil script. In another hand is written: 1865 Akron Ohio. In another hand is written in old dip pen ink: "Taken July 5th 1865 by G.W. Manly, Akron, O." A clean and beautiful close up portrait Victorian CDV image of Norman Fassett soon after the war, clearly signed and taken by a skilled photographer.

The CDV portrait of Norman is clear and clean, trimmed slightly on bottom edge as many were, to fit in CDV photo albums. He has a silk cravat tie at neck, sideburns and the same flip of hair as in his Civil War photo. Another alternative spelling of this surname in census records is Fassette, Fasset, Fossett, Fossette.
Web info on this regiment: In the fall of 1862, many Hartford area boys volunteered for military service and were commissioned into the 25th Connecticut Volunteers. They then traveled with the regiment south to Louisiana, where it spent the winter around Baton Rouge. In early spring, the regiment was ordered to make a diversion on the Confederate stronghold at Port Hudson with Ulysses Grant's Vicksburg campaign.

The Heritage auction description states: "CDV Portrait of Musician Norman Fassett, 25th Conn. Inf. Wears frock coat with high collar, dark trousers and holding fife in his hand. Exceptional quality and condition with back mark of Davis 245 Main Street Hartford. Fassett enlisted on Nov. 11, 1862 and mustered out Aug. 26, 1863. The regiment was engaged in Louisiana throughout Fassett's term of service."
