1907 Mary Forward Kooser Sargent at Coney Island RPPC Photo Postcard

On a single day in September of 1906, 200,000 postcards were mailed from the amazing American Coney Island beach area and amusement park of New York. This is a beautiful early Coney Postcard RPPC, Real Photo Postcard, and is clearly identified as taken on May 18, 1907 which was a Saturday. It shows 2 young identified women in their twenties; Mary Kooser Sargent and her friend Sally Zimmerman. It was unsent, with an empty American once cent stamp box.

Her father: Who's Who in Pennsylvania, A biographical Dictionary of Contemporaries, Edited by John W. Leonard; Second Edition, 1908:
"KOOSER, Francis J.: Jurist; born in Somerset, Pennsylvania., June 15, 1846. He was educated in the public schools, the Millersville State Normal School, and the Pennsylvania College at Gettysburg, and taught as principal of the Somerset schools and for several terms in the Normal School of Somerset County. After serving as clerk under his father¡ then county treasurer, he read law in the office of Hon. W.H. Koonitz and was admitted to the bar in 1867, being elected district attorney in the next year. In 1875 he was elected prothonotary and clerk of the court, the business panic of that period rendering his term of office a very busy one. As a lawyer he was very able and had to do with many important cases. On three occasions he received the Republican nomination for Congress, and in 1890 he was nominated for president judge of the Court of Common Pleas for the Sixteenth Judicial District. He was again nominated in 1901 and was this time elected for the term expiring in January, 1912. Somerset County had been just before made a separate judicial district. Address: Somerset, Pa."

Electrical Review, Volume 42, McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, 1903, Electrical Engineering: "Dinner for Mr. W.D. Sargent: "Mr. William D. Sargent, vice-president of the New York & New Jersey Telephone Company, was married on Wednesday of this week at the home of the bride, Miss Mary F. Kooser, at Somerset, Pennsylvania. A number of New York friends of Mr. Sargent were present at the ceremony, traveling in a special car from this city. On Saturday, February 14, a number of the electrical friends and associates of Mr. Sargent tendered him a bachelor dinner at the Hamilton Club, in Brooklyn. The occasion was a most delightful one, and was presided over by Mr. Charles F. Cutler, president of the New York & New Jersey Telephone Company, Mr. Henry Sanger Snow, treasurer of the same company, acting as toastmaster. A number of informal little speeches was made."

This is a beautiful vintage photo showing a day in the life of Mary and her friend Sally. They sit in a photographer's studio prop of wooden boat, with a white linen backdrop. Both women wear turn of the century hats and beautiful vintage fashion clothing. It was found in Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Mary's husband, William Dunlap Sargent was one of the inventors of the telephone, and served as a telegraph operator in the American Civil War under US General Burnside.
