1898 Maggie Barber Cabinet Photo by Henry Jasper Redfern, Sheffield UK
On reverse: "With love from Maggie Barber, Sep. 1898" is very boldly handwritten in old period fountain pen. Photo type: Original Vintage Victorian Cabinet Card Photograph. Photographer: H. Jasper Redfern, Electric Light Studio, Sheffield, South Yorkshire County, England. (known to be famed English photographer Henry Jasper Redfern 1871-1928. He was also known simply as "Jasper Redfern." Wiki states he was a "British filmmaker, optician, photographer, filmmaker, proprietor of a photographic and lantern retail business, cinema pioneer and x-ray and radiographic pioneer."
This is an amazing and intimate full body portrait English cabinet card photo of a young Maggie Barber. She wears a small straw hat, beautifully tailored 1890's clothing, a woolen short jacket and matching long skirt. She holds a small Victorian purse. She also wears an ornate (school?) ring on middle left hand finger, and appears as if she is about to speak.
A clearly signed British photo, and a stunning work of the photographer Redfern. We estimate Maggie to be about 15-18 years of age in this 1898 photo, born about 1882. Maggie may be a nickname for Margaret. The photo was found in Exeter, Devon, England. A beautiful Victorian Barber family photo, and one of our all time favourite images!

Note: Hello from ~debra. I have spent years collecting over 10,000 ID’d lost family photos & paper from US UK flea markets & antique shops. I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. A new high quality rigid sleeve is included for extra protection, especially during shipping. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both. Please search carefully, as they are often found together and many may be related. I also invite you to join me at Ancestorville Genealogy on facebook.
