1860's Libbie Haney or Havey CDV Photo, Rockford, Winnebago County IL
#095
On front: "Aunt Libbie, Haney" is beautifully handwritten in old period pencil ( see scan below of the signature, could be Haney, Harvey, Havey) Photo type: Original Antique Victorian Carte de visite Photograph. Photographer: G.W. Barnes, Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. (known to be Daguerreian, CDV, Cabinet Card photographer and artist GW Barnes, George Barnes or George W. Barnes 1839-1909, born in New York, and worked in Rockford, Illinois from 1860's onward. He bought out the James & Elizabeth Curtis Medlar Photography Studio in 1885)
Libby or Libbie may be a nickname for Elizabeth, or Elisabeth or others. This is a beautiful Civil War era image of Libbie and well signed in fancy old period pencil script on front under her portrait. She wears a velvet trimmed dress, with her hands on a book to show literacy, fresh flowers on table nearby. She appears to be in her teens to early twenties.
Our best guess would be that this photo was taken about 1864-1868, and we would say she was born about 1848-1855. Haney, Havey, Harvey or even Harrey? Any help or correction appreciated, email Debra here. It was was found in Sheffield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts.
