1880's Larkin Dunton signed Cabinet Card Photo, Boston, Massachusetts
#797 Dunton Genealogy:
On reverse: "Larkin Dunton, Normal School" is handwritten in old dip pen ink. Photo Type: Original Vintage Victorian Cabinet Card Photograph, circa 1880-90's. Photographer: Notman & Campbell, Photographer to Her Majesty, London, Paris, won awards 1862 and 1867, 4 Park Street, Boston, Massachusetts with branches at Cambridge, Mass; New Haven, Connecticut; and Easton, PA in Clarion County and Northampton County. (known to be famous photographer William Notman 1826-1891, born in Paisley, Scotland to William Notman Sr. and Janet Sloan Notman and died in Montreal, Canada)
This photo was found in West Tisbury, Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts. A Normal school was a school that trained teachers, chiefly to teach the elementary grades. The photo is slightly trimmed on edges, usually to fit into the tight Victorian paper photo album sleeves. It does not affect his actual image in any way. Larkin may be an old family surname also. It is assumed his occupation was an educator or school teacher. A beautiful piece.
Size: 4.5 by 7 inches Note: Hello from ~debra. I have spent years collecting over 10,000 ID’d lost family photos & paper from US flea markets & antique shops. I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. A new high quality rigid sleeve is included for extra protection, especially during shipping. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both. Please search carefully, as they are often found together and many may be related. I also invite you to join me at Ancestorville Genealogy on facebook. Thank you, enjoy! ~Debra Clifford (contact info on top bar)
