We believe this photo to be Josiah J. Childs, born in NYS. He lived in St. Louis at the time this photo was taken. Josiah J Childs was born on February 3, 1833, in Steuben County, New York. His father, Nathaniel, was 44 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 38. He had two sons with Mary Coverdale Childs between 1865 and 1876. He died in 1903 at the age of 70.

The son of the late J.J. Childs and Mary Coverdale Childs, born Septermber 30, 1876, in Cincinnati, he was educated in the Cincinnati Public Schools, and was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Business College. He came to Rome in 1898, and for 35 years was Secretary-Tresaurer of the Gas Company. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. In 1901, he was married to Miss Allein Logan Childs (1882 - 1953), who survives him in addition to one daughter, Mrs. G.S. Pritchett of Rome GA. Josiah looks like a hardy pioneer type. The photographer has hand tinted his eyes with a faded blue color tint. Found in Ithaca, Tompkins County NY, close to Steuben County NY.
