On reverse: possibly "A.L Miller." handwritten in old period fancy ink handwriting. Please see middle initial, it also may be "A.T. Miller." As in, his first name starts with an A. Photo type: Original Vintage Victorian Carte de visite Photograph. Photographer: Fancy ornate backmark with camera of E.S. Online searches reveal that an early settler or pioneer of Hoopeston was named Richard Miller, with info on him and his descendants in the history of the town. The Miller Bros were Grocers in Hoopeston in the later 19th century. Hoopeston is 120 miles south of Chicago, in the vicinity of Lafayette and Champaign, and 130 miles from Springfield.
This family photo is trimmed on top and bottom edges, usually to fit into photo albums, as many were. Does not affect his image in any way. He appears about 16-20 years old, born about 1850. A beautiful image, and a wonderful and historical Illinois Miller piece. Found in Greenfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts.
