This is a wonderful collection of the Gunning family 1860-70's CDV photos, 12 were all found together in Columbus, Wisconsin, in Columbia County & Dodge CountyAll 12 are clearly identified on reverse with clear old handwriting. This Gunning family has strong Irish roots.

The 12 Photos are, as follows:
1. On reverse: "Aunt Mary, Father's Sister" is handwritten in old pencil. "Gunning" is handwritten under this in black ballpoint pen. Photographer: E.K. Lee, Marshall, Dane County, Wisconsin (She would be known as Mary Gunning in census)
2. On reverse: "Aunt Jane Gunning Angus" is handwritten in old pencil. (they would be known as Jane Angus, Jane Gunning in census) Unmarked, no photographer's backmark.
3. On reverse: "Mrs Jane Engelke Lenz, Great Grandma Gunning, Martha Taylor Gunning, Mrs Robert Gunning" is handwritten in pencil. "
Lillian Gunning's Grandma" is handwritten in black ballpoint pen. (they would be known as Martha T. Gunning, Martha Gunning, Jane Lenz, Lillian Gunning in census) Unmarked, no photographer backmark.
4. On reverse: "Grandpa Gunning Father's Father" is handwritten in pencil. "Jane's Great Grandfather" is handwritten in black ballpoint pen. Photographer's Rubber Stamp backmark: Appears as A.B. Wallace, Photographer, Newtownards. (Note: Newtownards is a large town, townland and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough, 10 miles east of Belfast, on the Ards Peninsula.)
5. On reverse: "Great Grandpa Gunning of Jane's" is handwritten in pencil. "My Grandpa Gunning" is handwritten in black ballpoint pen. Photographer: E.R. Curtis, Madison, Dane County WI (known to be Edward Curtis, Edward R. Curtis)
6. On reverse: "Great Grandpa Gunning of Jane's" This photo had a revenue stamp, which is partially torn off. In 1864-66 the US government taxed photography to help pay for the American Civil war. Revenue stamps were placed on the back of photos, and "cancelled" by the photographer. CDV's with revenue stamps are collectible in their own right for stamp collectors and vintage photography collectors.
It is a wonderful way to date a Civil War era photograph. This CDV has a partial revenue stamp and no photographer's backmark.
7. On reverse: "David Gunning" is handwritten in pencil. Photographer: E.K. See (Note: It appears as if the photographer's name was spelled "SEE" the the "S" scratched off, Marshall, Dane County, WI. We have others marked E.K. Lee, was it a misprint?)
8. On reverse: "Mrs. David Gunning" is handwritten in pencil. Photographer: E.K. See with S rubbed off, Marshall, Dane County, Wisconsin, (same as above, see info directly above in photo number 7)
9. On reverse: "James Gunning, father of Lillian Gunning Engelke" is handwritten in pencil. Photographer E.K. Lee, Marshall, Dane County, Wisconsin (she would be known as Lillian Engelke in census records)
