George Winders was a blacksmith by trade. This old oil painting on board is clearly marked as painted in 1884, when George was 21 years of age. It is indicative of similar Victorian portraiture of the 1880's. It is a beautiful portrait of George, painted by a skilled artist. The reverse has a contemporary yellow paper adhered, which reads: "George Winders of Bromsgrove, Worcs., Reg. Winfield, 1884 Artist." We feel there is a good chance this painting was removed from a frame in the 20th century and carefully documented by a kind person on the adhered paper. There is also a 50mm adhesive plate hanger disc adhered to reverse, made by the J & Y Crossman Co. in Tytherleigh, Axminster, Devon, a contemporary firm.

We assume the painter artist was Reginald Winfield. We could find no info on him, and he may have been a traveling artist.
We did find:

Name: R. W.a Co Winfield

Residence Place: Worcestershire, England
Occupation: General & Ornamental Brassfindrs
