George Winders was a blacksmith by trade. This old oil painting on board is clearly marked as painted in 1884, when George was 21 years of age. It is indicative of similar Victorian portraiture of the 1880's. It is a beautiful portrait of George, painted by a skilled artist. The reverse has a contemporary yellow paper adhered, which reads: "George Winders of Bromsgrove, Worcs., Reg. Winfield, 1884 Artist." We feel there is a good chance this painting was removed from a frame in the 20th century and carefully documented by a kind person on the adhered paper. There is also a 50mm adhesive plate hanger disc adhered to reverse, made by the J & Y Crossman Co. in Tytherleigh, Axminster, Devon, a contemporary firm.
We assume the painter artist was Reginald Winfield. We could find no info on him, and he may have been a traveling artist.

A beautiful and rare Winders family piece we were very happy to find in Honiton, Devon, England. The condition is very good. There is some scratching in the image, but not near George's face in any way, see photo. This painting was found with Samuel Oliver family material on our site in Honiton, England, and may be related in some way. Any help or correction appreciated, email Debra here.
Note: Ancestorville watermark seen currently on photo will be removed when buying original or scans.
Size: 11 3/8 x 9 5/8 inches, 1/4 inch thick painting board, appears to have been once removed from an old frame.
Note: Hello from ~debra. I have spent years collecting over 10,000 ID’d lost family photos, items & paper from US & UK flea markets & antique shops. I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both.
