1860's George A. Noble CDV Photo, Westfield, Hampden County, Mass
#591:
On reverse: "George A. Noble" is handwritten and hand signed in old period dip pen ink. Photo Type: Original Vintage Victorian CDV Carte de Visite Photograph, circa 1860’s, Civil war era. Photographer: J.H. Willard, Westfield, Hampden County, Mass. (known as photographer John H. Willard or Jonathan H. Willard 1821–1894, born and died in Westminster, Windham County, Vermont. He married Eunice Cornish Willard and was an early Daguerreotype, Daguerreian artist in the 1865 MA census. He was later in partnership in the "Miller & Willard" studio in Westfield, before leaving the Westfield area for Easthampton, Massachusetts on to Westminster, Vermont)
In 1864-66 the US government taxed photography to help pay for the American Civil war. Revenue stamps were placed on the back of photos, and "cancelled" by the photographer. It is a wonderful way to date a Civil War era photograph. This CDV has a cancelled revenue stamp.
Found in Navarre, Florida, Santa Rosa County. A beautiful old Civil War era CDV of a handsome man. The extensive Noble Family of the Westfield, Mass area were listed as the occupation of whip makers, whip manufacturers, and whip lash makers. This is a beautifully hand signed CDV photo of a handsome gentleman wearing a silk cravat at his neck, and a silk topped suit.

I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. A new high quality rigid sleeve is included for extra protection, especially during shipping. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both. Please search carefully, as they are often found together and many may be related. I also invite you to join me at Ancestorville Genealogy on facebook.
