NOTE: Francis Fox Tuckett 1834-1913 was a world renowned English explorer, mountaineer, hiker, climber and alpinist who was revered for scaling 269 peaks during his lifetime. His father Francis first took him to the alps at the age of 8, in 1842. He later mapped the Italian Dolomites in the 1860's, and engaged in extensive mountaineering work from the 1850's to 1870's. He died at age 79 in 1913, and is buried in the graveyard of the Quaker Friends Meeting House in Frenchay, which had a large Quaker congregation.

Tuckett's "A Pioneer in the High Alps: Alpine Diaries and Letters of F.F. Tuckett, 1856–1874" was published in 1920, seven years after his death.
His sister Elizabeth was also a 19th c. explorer, who wrote "Zigzagging Amongst Dolomites" by Elizabeth Fox Tuckett, published in 1871, a year before her death at age 35.
This is a rare signed CDV photo. It was found in Exeter, Devon, England. Francis wears a black velvet coat with velvet piping, with Victorian gold pin at his neck. A famous British pioneer in exploration, and a wonderful original image. It is also beautifully hand signed and dated. It was taken in his home area of Bristol by photographer William Clark, and at the peak of his amazing journeying.
