We found evidence of a doctor and pharmacist Theophilus Fischer in online searches. In 1864-66 the US government taxed photography to help pay for the American Civil war. Revenue stamps were placed on the back of photos, and cancelled by the photographer. CDVs with revenue stamps are collectible in their own right for stamp collectors and vintage photography collectors. It is a wonderful way to date a Civil War era photograph. This CDV has a revenue stamp.

A beautiful old Fischer family piece. This is a mint and beautiful image of Doctor Theophilus Fischer of Philly. He is a young man, in his twenties, with hand tinted pink cheeks, a tintype photo in beautiful condition. It was found in Michiana, Berrien County, Michigan. His surname is seen spelled as Fisher.
