This photo was found in Madison, Madison County NY near Utica. Daniel was a Civil War veteran in the 105th NY, and a very celebrated Niagara County citizen. He died on March 26, 1890, at the age of 55 and was wounded at Antietam in the Civil War. He and his family are listed in the census spelled as both Thorne and Thorn. A rare and beautiful original Thorn family Civil War Veteran photo. It
is a beautiful image of an oil painting of Mr. Thorne, and most likely a GAR memorial or Victorian mourning painting comissioned by the family or town. A beautiful piece.
