On reverse: ‘C.C. Heisley’ is handwritten in old period pencil script. Photo Type: CDV Carte de Visite Photograph. Photographer: marked "Specialite." by Lee & Cowgill, Main Street, Mount Holly, New Jersey, Burlington County, (known to be the partnership of Henry M. Cowgill (Henry Cowgill) & Benjamin F. Lee, (Benjamin Lee), who was also listed as a Daguerreotypist)

A young Victorian gentleman with lightly hand tinted cheeks. Photo is slightly trimmed on edges to fit into a 19th c. photo album. He appears to be in his early twenties. We found evidence that young Charlie, at age 12 enlisted as a musician in the 28th PA regiment during the Civil War. His father was the chaplin of this famous regiment, which saw extensive duty at Gettysburg.

Resigned Hospital Chaplains Regiment U.S. Volunteers on 25 Jun 1864. Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale, Monmouth County, New Jersey. From March 1, 1916 obituary, Farmingdale NJ. In Red Bank, New Jersey, he was the Pastor at Friendship United Methodist Church in the 1850's.
