On reverse of CDV #2: "Martha Ann Ruth (Harrington) Jones" is handwritten in fine old pencil by the same hand. Photo type: 2 CDV carte de visite Photographs, Victorian, taken presumably the same day at the same Boston Dunshee photo studio. They both have an unsual printed date of 1884 on reverse at bottom. Photographer: Dunshee, No. 3 Tremont Row, Boston, Essex County, Massachusetts, fancy advertising backmark. (known to be photographers E.S. Dunshee, Edward Sidney Dunshee, Edward S. Dunshee, Edward Dunshee 1823-1907 and his brother Cornelius Dunshee 1829-1933, both born in Bristol, Addison County, Vermont)

George Franklin Jones 1847–1924 was born in Weston, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. His father was Benjamin Jones 1798–1880, son of Abijah Jones 1756–1813 and related back to Col. John Jones Sr 1686–1773 of Watertown, Massachusetts (married to Mehitable Garfield Jones 1687–1762); Captain Josiah Jones 1643–1714 also of Watertown (married to Lydia Treadway Jones 1649–1743) and back to Lewis Jones 1605–1684 of early English roots. His father's mother was Abigail Smith 1758–1833, daughter of James Smith 1724–1787 and Lucy Stearns Smith 1727–1816. This Smith family has early Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts roots. His mother was Phebe or Phoebe Tyrell Jones 1802–1849. According to later records she was born in Bridgewater, Grafton County, New Hampshire. Her surname is also seen spelled as Terrill, Tyrrell, Turrill, Turrell and Tirrill in records.

George F. Jones married Martha Ann Ruth Harrington Jones 1856–1922 in 1879 in Weston. He died at age 77 in 1924 in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and is buried in Weston, Massachusetts. Their son was John Wesley Jones born 1889, who married May Josephine Heard 1891–1981 in 1913. Their daughter was Marion Ruth Jones Tebo 1916–2002, the wife of Jeremiah Stewart Tebo 1914–1988.

These 2 beautiful Jones family photos were found together in Lewiston, Androscoggin County, Maine. Taken in 1884, George would be age 37, born 1847, and Martha would be age 28, born 1856. This is an important DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution and SAR Sons of the American Revolutionary War family. A beautiful set. Jones is a surname of English and Welsh origin, most common in Wales and south central England.
