On front:  "Lena Peters 12 yrs" is clearly handwritten in ink pen. On reverse: "Lena Peters, 12 years" handwritten in German in old dip pen ink. Photo type: CDV Carte de Visite Photograph, Victorian. Photographer: Herman Wunder, 722 Fulton Street, Kings County, New York. (known to be photographer Herman Wunder 1853-1927, born in Hanover, Germany and arrived in 1872 from Bremen. He died in Brooklyn, NYC in 1927)

Note: Herman Wunder, German, worked between 1878 through 1891 at 720 and 722 Fulton Street, therefore this photo was taken in that time period. We feel strongly Lena is of a German family as per German handwriting on back, and that would make sense in terms of Herman being chosen as the photographer. Also, this area of Booklyn was a very heavy German immigrant area at that time. 

This photo appears to us as being taken roughly about 1880-85. We believe we have found Lena Peters in census records below, her father Henry Louis Peters was a watch maker and repairer, born in Prussia, as well as his wife Louise Peters. see info below. This would make this photo taken in 1883 at the time she is listed "in school" in census records.

A beautiful original photo and a great shot by the skilled Wunder photographer. It was found in Kingston, Ulster County, New York. So much history on this page! We do not see evidence that Lena ever married. She died at age 81.
