#1066
On reverse: "Etta Wells" is handwritten in pencil. Photo type: 1880's CDV Carte de Visite Photograph, Victorian. Photographer: A.E. Taylor, Clinton, Rock County, Wisconsin WI. (known to be photographer Arthur Eugene Taylor 1850–1905 born in Milwaukee County and died in Delavan, Walworth County, Wisconsin. He also is known to have worked in Walworth County)
Note: Etta, Ettie, or Etty may be a nickname for Harriet, Harriett, Henrietta, Henriette, Margaretta, Lenetta, Lenette, Jeanetta, Jeanette, Ethel, Georgietta, Antoinette, Euretta, Izetta, Juliette, Loretta, Maretta. In Scotland, It is seen as a nickname for Margaret. The Wells family can be found in the Rock County, Wisconsin area, with many in the graveyards, although we could not find Etta.
This family photo is slightly trimmed on edges, usually to fit into the tight Victorian paper photo album sleeves. It does not affect her actual image in any way.
This is a beautiful close up 1870's portrait image of Etta Wells, very clear. Young Etta wears the 1880's hairstyle called "Langtry Bangs" after Lillie Langtry 1852-1829, a very famous and stylish English actress of the later Victorian era. We feel she would have been born about 1860-68. The photo was found in Brimfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, close to Connecticut. She may have New England relatives. Any help or correction on Etta is appreciated, email Debra here.
