1880's Virena Davis Hutton Victorian Calling Card, Isaac Newton Crouch

Handwritten on 1880's blank printed card: "Virena Davis Hutton" signed in old dip pen ink, with a beautifully printed Victorian calligraphy border. These Victorian era cards were used to "call" and announce your Victorian "calling" at homes of friends, acquaintances, family members and business contacts. Generally the home had a tray or "Charger," which was a large vessel, often silver, to hold the beautiful cards.

West Virginia was part of VA until VA seceded from the Union in 1861. The delegates of the 40 western counties who opposed secession formed their own government, which was granted statehood in 1863.

Her husband Isaac Crouch, or Isaac Newton Crouch, was also known as Newton Crouch, with it being etched on his tombstone at the Old Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville, Randolph County, West Virginia. We cannot find Virena's grave.

This was found in New Haven, Cheshire County, Connecticut. We wonder if she, or her husband had New England ties. This card will be sent in a new clean archival rigid sleeve for your collection. This was a personal calling card and early WV Hutton & Crouch Family member, and is one of a kind. We love that her family lived in a town called Huttonville. Her name is also seen spelled as Verena Hutton, and Verena D. Hutton in census records.
