1867 Theodore & Emma Tanner Smith Victorian Calling Card, Rhode Island

Printed on card: "Mr. and Mrs. Theodore E. Smith" with wife's maiden name, "Miss Emma L. Tanner" printed in the lower right corner. We believe this to be their 1867 wedding card. These Victorian era cards were used to "call" and announce your Victorian "calling" at homes of friends, acquaintances, family members and business contacts. Generally the home had a tray or "charger," which was a large vessel, often silver, to hold the beautiful cards.
