On Front: "Rebecca Stokes" is handwritten under her image. On reverse: "Rebecca, daughter of John S. Stokes of Philadelphia. She was his daughter by his first marriage" is handwritten in beautiful old old dip pen ink, in the same strong and clean hand as front in beautiful calligraphy handwriting. Photo Type: Original Vintage Victorian CDV Carte de Visite Photograph, circa 1860’s, Civil war era. Photographer: Keenan's Gallery, 118 West Fourth St., Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. (known to be photographer Newton E. Keenan, Newton Keenan, born 1815 in Kentucky. He was a well known Daguerreian, daguerreotype and Ambrotypist, CDV and Cabinet Card Photographer. He shared studio space with his well known Cincinnati artist and watercolorist wife, Mary Virginia Keenan 1831-1908. He was also known as N.E. Keenan, and possibly as Nehemiah Keenan.)

Died: Feb 13, 1858 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at age 15
Rebecca had one brother and three sisters.
She died as a teenager in February 1858. 

Her Father: John S. Stokes 1808–1892, a Quaker
He was born in New Jersey, died in Upper Darby, Philadelphia age 84.
His Father: Caleb Stokes 1782–1860 lived and died in Medford, Burlington County, New Jersey, and died at age 77, Quaker.
Mother: Ruth Shinn Stokes
They had 7 children, as in John had 6 siblings.

   This beautiful Quaker child CDV photograph shows young Rebecca, about 8 years old. Found in Chester, Windsor County, Vermont. We believe this to be copied from an earlier daguerreotype image of young Rebecca. A beautiful well marked piece.
