1860's Mrs. John C. Rogers, Portland, Maine Hand Signed Quilt Square
This is a beautiful old hand signed quilt square handmade from early gingham fabrics. 18 different beautiful handmade squares were found in a house in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine in 2008. They have just been put up now.
This one has the signature Mrs. John C. Rogers handwritten in center, in old early dip pen handwriting from the period. Most likely there was a quilting bee and each member made and signed their own squares. Some of the family members are related by same surnames, others may also be related family members. For whatever reason, the handmade quilt was never finished and assembled.
The square is crisp and unwashed, and handsewn with the utmost care. It was found in Portland, Maine. This beautiful old Rogers family piece would be wonderful framed. It is a rare, one of a kind Rogers family item.
Size: 12 x 12 inches
Note: Hello from ~debra. I have spent years collecting over 10,000 ID’d lost family objects, photos & paper from US flea markets & antique shops. I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both. Please search carefully, as they are often found together and many may be related. I also invite you to join me at Ancestorville Genealogy on facebook. Thank you, enjoy! ~Debra Clifford (contact info on top bar)
