Handwritten on card: "To Flora J. Blodgett, From A.L. Williams" and "June 1st" is handwritten on the back in in fine early period pencil script. The printed verse reads: "How lovely, how charming the sight, When children their teacher obey! The angels look down with delight, This beautiful scene to survey."

Jane Blood was born on August 22, 1833, in Groton, Massachusetts, and she married Josiah W. Blodgett on March 3, 1862, in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts. She died on November 22, 1866 in Westford, Massachusetts, at the age of 33 from "consumption."

This beautiful Civil War era 1860's hand colored or hand tinted card was found in the New England area near Brimfield, Massachusetts. It is printed on an early coated stock, and is in beautiful condition. AL Williams is most likely a Westford MA teacher's name. A beautiful old antique paper piece.
