This is an interesting CDV in that the Potter's Patent stamped sleeve was made in 1863, which post dates the 1859 death of her mother Emily Tilden in the photo. This was a commercially available paper sleeve for tintypes photos and may have been added later.

This Tilden family via William Hunt TILDEN of Palmyra NY, has strong SAR Sons and DAR Daughter's of the American Revolution ties. It appears he married Emily Allyn in 1858 in Michigan. She gave birth to daughter Emily in summer of 1859 there. His wife Emily passes away in 1859, possibly at their daughter's childbirth? We do not know. He and his new baby Emily go back home to live in the Palmyra NY area with other Tilden family members, the baby with her Uncle Christopher Tilden & Aunt Marceline Tilden.

He remarries, Miss Elizabeth Johnson in 1860 in Seneca Falls, NY. He enlists later in war, and sadly, is killed at Gettysburg in July 1863, at the age of 27. Young Emily lives with her step mother Elizabeth Johnson Tilden Lyke in later years after his death, and she eventually marries again to Jeremiah Lyke Jr 1835–1900. (Note: There is a chance her full name is Mary Elizabeth Johnson Tilden Lyke)

This Tilden family photo was found in Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County in 2011. A beautiful historical piece with a strong and sad story of young Emily who lost her mother, and then her father as a young child in the Civil War years. A rare one of a kind photo.
