This is a beautiful old CDV photo with a full and intricate photographer's advertising backmark of C.A. Sweetser. Photo type: 1870's Original Vintage Victorian Carte de visite CDV Photograph. Photographer: C.A. Sweetser Photographic Studio, Cleary's Block, High St., Holyoke, Hampden County, Massachusetts. (known to be photographer Charles Sweetser, Charles A. Sweetser born 1841. He most likely learned the trade from his uncle Aaron Sweetser, also a photographer in Springfield, MA)
We do not know the identity of the subject in the photo, but a beautiful portrait by a skilled photographer. This is simply a wonderful early full advertising photographer's backmark for a 19th c. CDV. It features an early antique wooden box camera, an artist's pallette, and beautifully embellished with classic American typography and Victorian graphics. There are CDV advertising backmark collectors out there, and this is a beauty!
