The History of Dublin, N.H.: Containing the Address by Charles Mason, and the Proceedings at the Centennial Celebration, June 17, 1852, with a Register of Families by Levi Washburn Leonard, Josiah Lafayette Steward, Charles Mason January 1, 1920, Town of Dublin: "HENRY HILLIARD SMITH, M.D. (alumni Dartmouth College, 1859), the son of Henry Sumner Smith and Mary Hilliard Smith was born at Liverpool, Medina County, Ohio on June 16, 1837, and died in Dublin, Oct. 8, 1911. He married at West Claremont, N.H., May 25, 1880, Arabella Sophia Fisk, born in Dublin, May 29, 1844; daughter of Thomas and Sophia Appelton Fisk. During the Civil War he was Acting Assistant Surgeon, U.S.N. (United States Navy, USN) He resided at Claremont, at Tunbridge, Vermont, and in Dublin NH."

History of the New Hampshire surgeons in the war of rebellion: Granville Priest Conn New Hampshire Association of Military Surgeons January 1, 1906 Ira C. Evans, Co., printers:  "Henry Hilliard Smith, M.D. Dublin, N.H.: Smith, Henry H.: Volunteer officer; b. Liverpool, Ohio; age 26; res. Claremont; app. Acting Asst. Surgeon Nov. 20, '63; served on USS Thomas Freeborn; resigned Apr. 21, 1865. P.O. ad., Dublin. (Record, Ayling's Register, 1895, p. 1165.)  "Surgeon Smith was born June 16, 1837, in Liverpool, Medina county, Ohio, and was the son of Henry Summer and Mary (Hilliard) Smith, his paternal grandfather being Benjamin Smith of Nashua, N.H. His preliminary education was received at the common schools and academy at Claremont, N.H, with a partial course at the Chandler Scientific School, Hanover, N. H. He commenced the study of medicine at Claremont, N.H. under the direction of Samuel G. Jarvis, M.D., and later with Profs. Dixi and A.B. Crosby of Dartmouth Medical College, attending two courses of medical lectures at Hanover, and was graduated from the Medical Department of Dartmouth College in the class of 1859. He commenced the practice of medicine in Tunbridge, Vermont in 1860, where he remained two years, removing from there to Dublin, where he has been in the practice of medicine for over forty years. He was appointed acting assistant surgeon November 20, 1863, and served on board the United States steamship the "Thomas Freeborn," resigning April 21, 1865, by reason of the close of the war. During his long residence in Dublin, N. H., he has enjoyed the confidence and good will of the citizens of that town, serving upon the local board of health, and in many other capacities that were useful to his fellow citizens. Married, May 25, 1880, Arabella S. Fisk."

Dr. Henry Smith also had 
East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio connections. This photo was found in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. A small intimate face portrait of Bell, with hand tinted pink cheeks. There is some crackling on the image, although it is completely intact. She appears to be about 18-25 years old in this photo. A beautiful hand signed original Victorian family photo.
