#1045 NYS Compton Genealogy

On reverse:  "Mr. & Mrs. Compton" is handwritten in pencil. Photo type: CDV Carte de Visite Photograph, Victorian. Photographer: Crum & Sharp, Watkins, Schuyler County, New York NY. (known to be photographers Richard D. Crum 1831-1913 or R.D. Crum, born in NY and died in West Long Branch, Monmouth County, New Jersey, buried at Greenlawn Cemetery and Christopher Sharp 1828-1911, ambrotypist, daguerreian, died age 83 in Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan)

We feel strongly this is the 1865 wedding photo of Abram Compton 1839–1907, born in Tryone, Steuben County, New York and died in Schuyler County, New York, and his wife Frances M. Smalley Compton 1848–1920. They married at the end of the war in 1865 and had 8 children. He served in the 11th Regiment, Pennsylvania Cavalry, 108th Volunteers, Co. E. and was the son of Hezekiah Compton 1810–1877 and Margaret Benson Compton 1822–1904.

If it is not Abram, it is of his Compton family and is one of his brothers. The Compton family is heavy in this area. His name is also seen as Abraham Compton.

A beautiful portrait found in Geneva, Ontario County & Seneca County, New York NY, just up the road. The Compton family is heavily seen represented in this old area of NYS. It is a beautiful circa mid 1860's portrait and appears as many similar CDV wedding portraits we have seen.
