1823-1942 Newton Walker, Amanda Vose Family Register, Woodhull NY
#943
A beautiful old 1852 Currier & Ives hand colored family Register on early paper, printed before the advent of color printing. This was an amazingly prolific American printmaking company based out of and in business from 1835 to 1907. It was started by Nathaniel Currier, and later James Merritt Ives was added to the company in 1857. They printed more than a million prints and were known the world over.
This a black and white lithographic print, which was then hand colored. Printed text on bottom edge of print reads: #74, Entered according to Act of Congress 1852, Pub by Currier & Ives in the Clerks Office in the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York, 125 Nassau St. N.Y.
It appears to us that someone in the Walker / Vose family re-typed the genealogy info that was originally written underneath, and glued these bits of paper over the original handwriting, to save it. Most likely the early handwriting had severely faded, as early dip pen ink does. Basically this was an intervention to save the family information. We believe it was once framed in a standard 19th c Victorian era wooden frame. It is fragile and will be sent carefully secured for shipping.
