Ogdensburg Journal, Gouverneur NY, Jan. 25 1916:  Mrs. Jane Lockie Tait, widow of John P. Tait (John Tait), died at 5:30 Saturday afternoon at the home of her son, Charles M. Tait (Charles Tait), on West Barney street, after many months of failing health, aged 73 years. Mrs. Tait was born in the town of Rossie NY July 21, 1842, daughter of John and Janet Ormiston Lockie (Janet Lockie, Janet Tait), who came to that town from Scotland with the pioneers who hewed homes from the wilderness in that section. She grew to young womanhood in that town, and it was there that she married Mr. Tait, a young carpenter and builder of home neighborhood. The first two years of their married life were spent in a cozy home in Rossie (St. Lawrence County, Saint Lawrence County), but as this village offered greater opportunities in the building line they moved here. Mr. Tait died 17 years ago. Mrs. Tait joined the Rossie Presbyterian church in her youth and 46 years ago she was transferred to the Gouverneur church. She is survived by three sons, Charles M. Tait, at whose home she died; George L. Tait (George Tait), a well-known clothing merchant of this village, and John Tait, a Rossie farmer, and one Sister, Mrs. Ellsworth, who helped care for her.

A beautiful old Ogdensburg area historical piece of a with wonderful family and provenance of Jane Tait. A stunningly clear and crisp close up family portrait. She has beautiful Victorian black jet beading sewn on her black dress, and she may be in a Victorian mourning period. Found In Utica, Herkimer County, New York.
