The town of South Groton, then known as Groton Junction, is today the community of Ayer, MA. This CDV has a wonderful photographers advertising backmark which depicts a CDV photo album with what appears to be a photo of a Civil War soldier inside, unusual and graphic. The photo is slightly trimmed on edges, usually to fit into tight Victorian paper photo albums, as most were. Does not affect her actual image in any way.

Their actual grave records spell their surname as Pingry, although it is also seen as Pingry, Pingray, and Pingrey. We found her husband John referred to as "Captain John Pingry." This family has strong SAR DAR Revolutionary War, Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution and early New England ties. We were very happy to find this rare and original Pingry piece in Greenwich, Fairfield County, CT.

We wonder...does the original daguerreotype 1840's photo of Eunice Pingrey (that this CDV is a copy of) still exist in the world today? We hope so. We feel it is a testament to how much she was loved for the family to have copied it. A beautiful old and rare New England piece.
