1913 David Douthart Baby Photo, Found in Boston, Massachusetts
#206 Douthart Genealogy:
On reverse: "David Douthart, about 2 years old, taken 1913" is beautifully handwritten and in old black fountain pen ink. Photo type: Original Antique Victorian Small Dry Mount Photograph. Photographer: Unmarked, Unknown.
This is a wonderful small image of a young baby boy taken in 1913. In the Victorian era, boys wore frocks with pleated skirts, or tunics and blouses over pleated skirts, until the age of three or five. A portrait of the Prince of Wales in a Scottish kilt in 1849 gave rise to this vogue for boys in America. It is an outdoor scene on a summer day, and probably taken by a Douthart family photographer.
The photo was found in Brimfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts, near the Boston area. We found a David Marshall Douthart in census, born in 1911 in Somerville, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in the nearby Boston area. This is a beautiful old photo of a single moment in time.
Size: 3 by 4 inches
