Photographer: William Coffrin, Claremont, New Hampshire, Sullivan County for NH and Hampden County for MA. (known to be photographer William Coffrin 1841-1915)

Found in Public Genealogy Records: George H. Hewitt was the President of Duryea Motor Wagon Company, which began in 1895 in Springfield, Massachusetts, was the first factory in the USA to build gas powered automobiles.

Bio: George Henry Hewitt 1854-1926 born in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts to Joseph Richardson Hewitt 1821–1896 and Marcia Judith Spaulding 1824–1893. His siblings were Frankie Hewitt 1855–1857, died age 2; Freddie Hewitt 1855–1864, died age 9; and Arthur Ernest Hewitt 1876–1879, died age 3. We do not believe he married. In the 1870-1900 census he was still in Springfield...then in 1910 he was in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California and also Aspen, Pitkin County, Colorado. By the 1920 census he was back in Springfield where he died in 1926.

A very handsome young Victorian era George, about 18 years old, a New Hampshire early school photo of an important man. One of a kind.
