1840's Ellen Brunshill ID'd Coalport English Christening Mug

#994 Brunshill Genealogy, Victorian Coalport Christening Mug:

A lovely old original antique personalised English pottery mug, cup or coffee can for a young Miss Brunshill. The colours are a rich forest green, cream and gold gilding with her name prominently glazed and fired into the mug front by English potters on special assignment or order. We feel this piece was made by the ever famous Coalport Porcelain Works in Coalport, Shropshire, in business from 1795-1926.

Many of these early named pieces are christening mugs or cups, although this appears to be for a special situation such as a graduation from a level of school or religious event, engagement, or marriage.

We assume Ellen was in her teen years when she received this as per being called Miss, although she could have been in the 8-10 year range also. We did find a young Ellen in census records below listed as a "scholar."

This is a lovely and rare old Victorian gold gilded present to Ellen, and is one of a kind. We will never have another. It was found in Alcester, Warwickshire, England.

The Brunshill surname is also seen spelled as Brunskill in records. A wonderful old Brunshill family genealogy item, and early original English Coalport piece in fine condition. There is a black pre firing glaze mark on bottom, but no chips, cracks, or repairs. Beautiful!

Note: There are no scans available for this item.
