1860's Ward Edward Allen CDV Photo, Worcester County, Massachusetts

#863:

This is a wonderful hand signed and hand dated Civil War era original Antique Victorian CDV carte de visite photo portrait of Ward E. Allen. On back side he has handwritten, in his beautiful script "Very Cordially, Your Friend, Ward E. Allen, Templeton, Mass. Our Home, June 15, 1863." Mr. Allen would be in his thirties here. The photo is unique in that his arm holding onto the chair appears to have moved and it seems that the photographer shaded out the movement in the negative, unusual for this time in the development of photography. Photographer: Unmarked, Unknown.
