Found in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Meriams, Merriam and Merriams are alternative spellings of this surname and seem to be used interchangeably. We believe this photo to be Nancy Butman Meriam, as this is a mid to later 1870's CDV photo, when Nancy was his wife. An alternative spelling of her surname is Buttman. Her sister Phebe was Marshall's second wife, and died in 1873. This is a beautiful, clear and intimate portrait.
