Flavel G. Merriam is also listed in business directories as applying for patents and owners of mills, milling business in Akron, Ohio earlier and Peoria, Illinois in the 1880-1890's.

We found evidence of this family's connection to the early Benham line. This photograph is of a stunning young Victorian era woman, Lucinda, with large sleeves. She is about 25 years of age, and looks directly into the camera, an amazing shot. This would be an 1860's Civil War CDV era photo, around the time of their wedding. She is buried at Glendale Cemetery in Akron. We could not find her husband Flavel's grave. This photo was found in Northampton, Massachusetts, Hampshire County. A beautiful photo of an early DAR member.
