1864 James Michael Reasor Civil War CDV Photo. 14th Kentucky

On reverse: "Uncle Mike Reasor" is handwritten in old pencil. Photo type: Original Vintage Victorian CDV carte de visite Photograph. Photographer: J.W. Williams, Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky (known to be photographer John Wesley Williams, born 1821 in Paris, Kentucky and died 1907 in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky)

This old CDV has a George Washington 3 Cent Internal Revenue Proprietary Tax Stamp. In August 1864 to August 1866, the US government taxed photographs to help pay for the American Civil war. Revenue stamps were placed on the back of photos, and “hand cancelled" by the photographer. CDV's with revenue stamps are collectible for stamp and vintage photography collectors.
