1880's Henrietta, Mary Lela & James Blasingame Cabinet Photo, Illinois
On reverse: "Aunt Rhett, Lelia and Jim Blasengame, Mary Alice's sister & family" is handwritten in bold pencil. Photo Type: Victorian Cabinet Card Photograph. Photographer: Jenkins Studio (known to be Samuel A. Jenkins who worked in various cities in Illinois: Monticello, Piatt County; Clinton, DeWitt County; Maroa, Macon County, and Hoopeston, Vermilion County, Illinois, all south of Chicago) Found with another related Burgess family photo, click here.
The 3 in the photo are Henrietta Blasingame, Mary Lela Blasingame and James Blasingame. "Rhett" and "Reta" were Henrietta's nicknames in census. Young Mary was known as "Lilia" or "Lela" at this point, later "Lulu." James is known here as "Jim." Also mentioned in photo in Henrietta's younger sister Mary Alice Jenkins.

This family photo is trimmed on bottom edge, usually to fit into tight paper photo albums, as most were. Does not affect their actual image in any way. You can still read Jenkins Studio as photographer on bottom, and we believe this photo was taken in photographer Samuel Jenkins' Clinton, DeWitt County, Illinois studio. Interestingly, Henrietta's maiden name was Jenkins...is she related to the photographer?
Note: The spelling of this surname is seen with many variations such as Blasenghim, Blassingill, Blassingam, Blasengame, Blassingame, Blasengame, Blassengame and such. Found in Oswego County NY with another on our site of 2 children taken in Milo, Iowa, Harry & Leroy Burgess, see their photo here. Both have the same inscription "Mary Alice's Sister & family" (known to be Henrietta's younger sister, Mary Alice Jenkins) and the inscriptions are handwritten by the same hand.
We do not know the relationship between these two photos found together, and are hoping you do. A beautiful close up portrait, sadly Jim died young, in 1902 and Henrietta, Rhett in photo lived on until 1932, age 75. A beautiful old photo.

Note: Hello from ~debra. I have spent years collecting over 10,000 ID’d lost family photos & paper from US flea markets & antique shops. I do the best gen research I can, but am always open to corrections. This is an original antique item, not a reprint. A new high quality rigid sleeve is included for extra protection, especially during shipping. You may buy a piece alone, or large intimate 300 dpi scans of the front and back sent immediately via email, or both. Please search carefully, as they are often found together and many may be related. I also invite you to join me at Ancestorville Genealogy on facebook.
