1840s Fanny J. Short, wife Elnathan Walker Antique Sampler, Taunton MA


This unique and meticulously handmade original antique cross stitch needle work bookmark has the name "Fanny J. Short" hand sewn in red thread. It is made of silk and punch paper. It was found in Brimfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.

Fanny J. Short Walker was born on April 17, 1838. She married Elnathan Walker on November 18, 1868, in Taunton, Massachusetts. (Fanny Walker) They had twins during their marriage, born October 1873:

Her husband Elnathan Walker, born 1835, passed away on June 17, 1902, in Taunton, Mass at the age of 67. They had been married 33 years.

NOTE: Fanny Short's husband Elnathan Walker's grandfather was a very important New England ancestor: Colonel Elnathan Walker, born 1706 in Taunton, and died in 1775 in Dighton, Massachusetts. Mayflower Society records state Elnathan was a 4th generation descendent of Thomas Rogers, a passenger on the 1620 voyage of the Mayflower from England to Plymouth. This family is important in DAR Daughters of the American Revolution, as well as Sons SAR records. Captain Walker is buried at the Burt-Crane-Gulliver-Walker Cemetery in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.

Fanny Short Walker died on June 2, 1905, in Taunton, Massachusetts, at the age of 67, and is buried with her husband at the Westville Cemetery in Taunton.

Taunton is down the road from where this old antique item was found. Census records might also read Frances Short. A beautiful and one of a kind Short & Walker handmade family piece.
