Irving Redfield, NY This certificate is from the State of New York Department of Public Instruction, County of Madison, Town of Fenner, for E. Irving Redfield who completed the first term of the 7th grade. The certificate is signed by Timothy F. Danehy, Teacher and Isaac A. or S. Clements, School Commissioner, (Timothy Danehy and Isaac Clements) and is dated March 7, 1904. Although not exactly a reward of merit, it falls into the category of school ephemera. Perrin This beautiful Perrin family calling card was found in the region of Michiana, Berrien County, Michigan, and South Bend, Saint Joseph County, Indiana. 1655 Osterwald: Book on Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, CO This is an out of print book called Cinders & Smoke, A mile by mile guide for the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad trip. The book is written by Doris Osterwald, and published by Western Guideways Ltd., Lakewood Colorado. First Edition, Copyright 1965, with this book being the 18th, 1985, and last printing. Lakewood, Colorado, is in Jefferson County. The book chronicles the railroad, history, rocks, points of interest, birds, flowers, trees, mining, early settlers, and gold mines of the trail. Montanye, and his wife, Francis M. Montanye. (Frederick Montanye, Francis Montanye in census records? The book is called: The Village of Esperance, N.Y. 1663 Mongiello: 1946 Program for Testimonial Dinner Program of Rev. Mongiello, MA This is a program for a Testimonial Dinner in Honor of Reverend Nicola Mongiello, dated Thursday, February 21, 1946, located in the Hotel Richmond Blue Room. His photo is on program front. The occasion was Rev. Mongiello leaving St. Anthony Church, in North Adams. North Adams is in Massachusetts, Berkshire County. He was born in 1885 in Montemarano, Avellino, Italy, the son of Nunzio Mongiello and Giovanni Riccardelli. He was adorned as a Priest in 1908 and served with the Italian army in WW1. Emigrating to the US in 1920, he was in Troy, NY, (Albany and Rensselaer County) Bayonne, NJ (Hudson County) and Mahoneytown, PA which is a town we cannot find in any records. PThis has a beautiful old ornate photographer's backmark, the handwriting is also very clear and beautifully written. Nellie looks to be about 14-16 years old, may be a women's seminary school. Nellie may be a nickname for Cornelia Barber, Eleanor Barber, Helen Barber, Helene Barber, Janelle Barber, Janella Barber, or other names. A wonderful Barber family history piece. (Note, Nellie was found with 2 other photos of her fellow classmates: Emma Boardman and Hattie Tyler, same handwriting on all three photos, and same photographer, probably taken on the same school day, all same age. 1678 Wheeler: 1850's Hand Sewn Quilt Square of Cecelia Wheeler, ME This is a beautiful old hand signed quilt square made of early fabrics. 18 different squares were found in Portland Maine, Cumberland County all with different women's family names handwritten on them. They are all on our ancestor site. This one has the signature Cecelia Wheeler handwritten in center, in old early dip pen handwriting from the period. Most likely there was a quilting bee and each member made their own squares. Some of the family members are related by same surnames, others may also be related family members also. For whatever reason, the handmade quilt was never finished. This square is hand sewn with the utmost care. Found in Portland, Maine area, which is in Cumberland County. Ancestral migration made the mailing and movement of ephemera common between separated family members, although we do strongly feel these quilt squares to be Portland, Maine related, as they came directly out of a house in that vicinity. The back has written, in old dip pen ink: For Libbie Hall with love from Maggie Gordon, 1883. In ballpoint pen is then written: Related to Alexander Gorden (could also be Gordon, the "o" is not closed) missionary to India, Cedar Rapids. (NOTE: Ballpoint pen was invented in 1945, so written this was most likely by a later family member) NOTE: Cedar rapids Iowa, IA, is in Linn County, and Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, NE, is in Boone County. We are not sure which Cedar rapids the handwriting refers to. Do you know? It has a thick black border and printed text reads: "FUNERAL NOTICE: the funeral services of the late ALEX EARLY who died Friday february 22, 1907 at 8:45 PM, will be held at the M.E. Chirch on Monday February 25. 1907, at 2:30 PM. Internment in Barry Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend."It measures 4.5 x 3.5 inches and is enclosed in a paper sleeve.
