This is quite a well known historical woman in Huntington County,
Indiana History. From various websites we have pieced together that Isabella Custance was born in England and arrived in Indiana in 1850,
about 10-15 years before this photograph was taken. Her sister had moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, in Dutchess County. She moved to the area of her brother in Indiana. Her husband was Frederic S.C. Grayston (Frederic Samuel Cooper Grayston, born 1823-1898). His parents were Bartholomew and Lucy (Trott) Grayston. They had 5 children: Boston Grayston, Sarah Grayston, Charles
Grayston, Anna Grayston and Frederick Grayston. Her
husband was a very famous professor and doctor, physician. In the Civil War years, Dr. Grayston, was appointed by President Abraham Lincoln examining
surgeon for invalid pensioners in 1864, a position he retained for a period
of twenty years. Their son Boston Hayden Grayston married Mary
Slack Grayston. Their children were: 1. Wallace Slack Grayston
who married Bessie B. Kitch (Bessie Kitch may be a nickname for Betsy Kitch, Elizabeth
Kitch or Elisabeth Kitch) 2. Hayden Boston Grayston, who
married Mary Truman, mother of Eloise Caroline Grayston. 3. Truman
Grayston 4. Ann Isabella Grayston 5. Mary Elizabeth Vansant Grayston. We could find
no published photograph of her or her family online, but this rare photo. Found

Mfg. CO., NY This is a shipping receipt from the S.A. Millard
Manufacturing Company of Haskinsville, N.Y, Steuben County to be
shipped to D.L. & N.R.R. to the town of Wallace, New York, in Steuben County.
Note: The DL & NRR is the Detroit, Lansing and Northern Railroad. This railroad was a successor to the Detroit, Lansing and Lake Michigan Railroad in 1876. After its failure in 1896, it became the Detroit, Grand Rapids and Western Railroad. About 1900, it became a part of the Pere Marquette system Railway or Railroad. The document is dated March, 1889, and lists things ordered: Scythes,
Steel Goods, Hop bars, Ratchet Jacks, etc. It is signed by Wiliam
H.S. VanVleet, (in census recrds he may be known as William Van Vleet
or William VanVleet) who is identified as a railroad agent. It is lightweight
