NY. This has a beautiful old ornate photographer's backmark, the handwriting
is also very clear and beautifully written. Hattie looks to be 14-16 years old,
may be a women's seminary school. Hattie may be a nickname for Harriet Tyler, Harriett Tyler, Henriette Tyler, Henrietta Tyler, Haidee Tyler, or Hadria Tyler. A wonderful Tyler
family history piece. (Note, Hattie was found with 2 other photos of her fellow
classmates: Emma Boardman and Nellie Barber, same handwriting on all three
photos, and same photographer, probably taken on the same school day, all same

Civil War period. Photographer Name & Address: W.H. Sherman, 281
Main Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. County: Milwaukee County for WI and Portsmouth,
New Hampshire is in Rockingham County. Found in Greenwich, Connecticut,
CT in Fairfield County. The University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee has
extensive papers of this family from 1799-1875, including many writings
of Angelina Peirce. Her father was Captain N.T. Moulton of
Southampton, and her sister and brothers were Bell Moulton, John Moulton,
and Thayer Moulton. Family names associated
with this Peirce family are: Lovering, Franklin, Thayer, Moulton, Haynes,
Crumbaugh, Vedder, Ely and Peirce. They
also lived in Utica New York (Oneida County), and Highland, California
in San Bernardino County. Angelina's father, Captain Moulton was from
Southampton, but we are not sure if that is New York, Suffolk County
or Massachusetts, Hampshire County. An unusual spelling of Peirce, Pierce. Here is

century printed business related cards in Berkshire County, Massachusetts,
MA. Card is printed on heavy old off white cardstock with simple
early American typography font. These business cards give a wonderful
look into early advertising at the turn of the last century, as well
as good genealogy clues. Early Census and business records can also
be of help in finding these lost ancestors and their working whereabouts,
as well as the geneology sites for each specific county. Research
into the the architect, building and address they worked at may also
provide good clues for date and time period. This piece has beautiful

to help pay for the American Civil war. Revenue stamps were placed
on the back of photos, and "cancelled" by the photographer.
CDV's with revenue stamps are collectible in their own right for
stamp collectors and vintage photography collectors. It is a wonderful
way to date a Civil War era photograph. This CDV has a cancelled
revenue stamp with the photographer's handwritten initials HSS. This
is a beautiful portrait of E.A. Pollock, has been trimmed to fit
in a photo album, as many were. Does not affect her image in any

This photo has a wonderful old patriotic printed backmark for the RH Dewey photographer, with an image of an open CDV album, and a CDV showing with a Union army officer in the first page, unusual! Edwin Sexton is a very handsome man, and this is a stunningly crisp Sexton family portrait, with beautiful tone and clarity. From web: EDWIN SEXTON: Known as "Edwin C. Sexton" born August 1842 (date on photo appears to be in error) in Stockbridge, Berkshire County, MA. Father, Edson Sexton (born CT, c. 1801), mother, Caroline Sexton (born CT or MA, c. 1803). A maiden name of Carter is written on photo for his mother. The family later resided in Hampden County, MA by 1870, where Edwin remained during his lifetime. Some of his siblings were, Edward Sexton, Egbert Sexton, and Charlotte Sexton. He served in the Civil War, Company A, 20th Infantry Reg., MA, enlisted 1861 and had a disability discharge in 1862. His wife was named Pauline Sexton and it appears they did not have children. His occupation is shown as a "painter."
