Type: Dry Mount. Approximate Age: circa 1900's. Found in Western Massachusetts,
MA in Greenfield, Franklin County near Vermont border. In the Victorian
era, boys wore frocks with pleated skirts, or tunics and blouses over
pleated skirts, until the age of three or five. A popular portrait of
the Prince of Wales in a Scottish kilt in 1849 gave rise to a considerable
vogue for pleated skirts and dresses. Watson is most likely also a family

Found in a large lot of 19th c. calling cards in the vicinity of Augusta,
Maine, Kennebec County. This is a beautiful early hand tinted
or colored piece, with a printed verse on front which reads: "Be your

Hornell is 55 miles south of Rochester and is at the western edge
of Steuben County. The area was incorporated as a town in 1820, as "Hornellsville." The
name comes from early settler George Hornell, who built the first
gristmill there. The City of Hornell was chartered in 1888 as the "City
of Hornellsville" (having been first organized as the "Village
of Hornellsville" in 1852). The name was changed to Hornell

on document: "From Willis H. Cash, City Treasurer Pueblo, Colorado,
to Mr. E.W. Brown of Troy, New York, Dated April 15th, 1911. Dear Sir,
We mailed you receipt on the sidewalk assessment of $17.20 on Nov. 19-1911
and as we never had it returned presumed you received it. The receipt

pen ink. His name may be Willis Cash in census records. County:

1850-60's. We have looked extensively at the first name of Alanson
written on this tintype, thinking that it was Abramson Evans. It
is very light in color, and has faded over time. We are including an
enhanced scan of the writing, with contrast boosted up. 4 corners of
paper sleeve holder snipped, most likely to fit in an old photo album.
This Evans family boy is about 12 years old, with tinted cheeks and
a faint smile. Alansson is definately a 19th century American name.
